Get ready for an exciting spring kickoff! We’re thrilled to announce our THIRD year of community access partnership with Discover Newport to present Wednesdays on the Water – FREE admission every Wednesday from March 11 through May 6, 2026. Dive into the inspiration of sailing through STEM programs, educational interactives and life perspectives from legends of the sport.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve never stepped on a sailboat, the museum’s engaging and interactive high-tech exhibits will immerse you in stories of triumph, technology, heartache and camaraderie. Take a fun quiz to discover the boat that best suits your personality, create a personalized avatar, design your own boat, try steering with both tiller and wheel, and work together with other visitors to “sail” a boat. You can even design a burgee to take home as a memento.
Located in the historic 1894 Armory – once the Press Center for the America’s Cup in the heart of Newport, RI – the museum celebrates the rich history and vibrant culture of sailing. Explore the incredible people who bring the sport to life, including designers, shipbuilders, historians, Olympians, sailmakers, and champions. We offer a unique window into the most exciting personalities in sailing, honoring those who’ve made their mark on the sport.
